Visitation for Mr. Hollis Lewis will be conducted at Drew Baptist Church 12:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2014, with Celebration of Life Services immediately following beginning at 1:30 p.m.. Interment will be in Drew City Cemetery.

Mr. Lewis, 92, died Friday, August 22, 2014, at Greenville Delta Regional Hospital. He was born in Eupora, Webster County, Mississippi on July 28, 1922, and had lived in Drew most of his life. He was a Baptist. He will be remembered as a faithful longtime member of Drew Baptist Church where he was in attendance at all services as his health permitted.

Mr. Lewis was a veteran of World War II, having gone to the military immediately after high school graduation, and he served in the United States Navy from 1943-1946. He served in Hawaii for eighteen months. He was a 2nd class Navy shopkeeper. He had four other brothers who served in that War also. They were Henry Sephus Lewis, Odis Irvin Lewis, Loy Webster Lewis, and Jonathan Roy “Pete” Lewis.

He worked at Cleveland Lumber Company for ten years. Following that, he was co-owner of Lewis & Fulgham Lumber Construction Company in Cleveland, MS.

Mr. Lewis was predeceased by the following family members: his father and mother, Luther Webster Lewis and Ida Orilla Britt Lewis; seven brothers, Henry Sephus Lewis (Gladys), Duel David Lewis (Alice Fondren), Noel Britt Lewis (Elvie Fulgham), Odis Irvin Lewis (Claudia Faye Bass), Loy Webster Lewis (Frances Hawkins), Jonathan Roy Lewis (Carrie Lee Blaylock) and Elliott Leon who died at birth. His four sisters were, Lula Lee Lewis Wright (Arthur), Etta Lucille Lewis Fulgham (Dero), Stella Marie Lewis Finley (Leroy) and Bessie Evelyn Lewis Bass Mims (Henry).

Mr. Lewis also leaves many loving nieces and great-nieces, nephews and great-nephews, and a host of friends who will miss him.

Mr. Lewis had lived in the same house in Drew MS since returning from the military in 1946. At his death, he resided in Magnolia Gardens, Greenville, MS under the watchful care of his nephew, Howard Paul “Buster” Lewis (Pi), Greenville, MS and a great-nephew, Noel Chris Lewis (Carla) of Drew MS.

Mr. Lewis was a craftsman extraordinaire and in his retirement, he made intricate carvings which he delighted in presenting to friends and family for special occasions. Those who were fortunate enough to receive these gifts have a treasure unlike any other, lovingly carved by a master craftsman’s talented hands.

Pallbearers are Roe Fulgham, Maury Knowlton, Rodney Fulgham, Brad Robb, Jon Lewis, and Webb Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Drew Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Drew Baptist Church.
