CHESTER - Bessie L. (Peterson) Odegard, 94, who taught in the Whitlash area, Shelby and Joplin, and served as Liberty County superintendent of schools, took pride in teaching first-graders to read and enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and reading, died of natural causes Aug. 21, at a Chester care center.
At her request, cremation has taken place under the direction of Holland & Bonine Funeral Home of Havre. Private services will be held, with burial of ashes in Glendive Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Audrey "Susie" Wollan of Billings; sons Terry Odegard of Billings, and Richard Batzer of Payson, Utah; sisters Nora Faunce and Shirley Koch of Arizona; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husbands Richard Batzer and Paul Odegard.
