WHEELER — Harrison Hall, 92, of Wheeler, TX died Saturday, August 23, 2014, on the ranch he loved. Harrison was the son of the late Norwood and Cora (Porter) Hall. He was the grandson of J.M. and Millie Jones Porter, who were prominent early pioneers of the Texas Panhandle.

Services will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Wheeler, TX, with Rev. Bill Stiles, Rev. Rodney Weatherly, and Rev. Matthew Gary, officiating. Burial will follow in the Wheeler Cemetery under direction of Peppers Family Funeral Home.

He graduated from Wheeler High School and while attending Sul Ross University, he married Berniece Stevens in 1941. She preceded him in death in 1997. Harrison entered the Army in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945.

Harrison was an outstanding rancher, and he and his family were awarded the prestigious Texas Family Land Heritage Award in 1999 for the J.M. Porter Ranch.

He was honored by many organizations including: Outstanding Rancher and Farmer in 1990, Man of the Year in 1992, received the Pioneer Spirit Award in 2000, all from the Wheeler Chamber of Commerce; and received the Outstanding Supporter of Wheeler Athletics Award in 1991. He served as the Mayor of Wheeler in 1974 and 1975.

Harrison married Cherry Abernethy in 2008. They worked together on the ranch until the day he died. Harrison personified a work ethic that today is rarely seen. His word was his bond, and was a true friend for life; and family was above all.

He is survived by his wife Cherry, children Dorothy and Joe Miller of Pampa, TX, and their children Clint, Penny, and Sarah and Linda and Dan Trimble of Wheeler, TX, and her children Richard, Harrison (Bubba) and Preston III (Trey); step-children Paige and Mark Tate of McLean, TX and Trevor McDonald of Wichita, KS; brothers Gene Hall, and wife, Helen, of Pampa, TX, Joe Richard Hyatt of Houston, TX , Charles Hall of East Wenatchee, WA, and sister Mary Jo Yee and husband, Gordy of Santa Fe, NM. He had numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Harrison had a large host of friends.

The family suggest memorials be sent to the Wheeler Ex-Students Association, Box 1194, Wheeler, TX, or the Wheeler Historical Museum, Box 613, Wheeler, TX, 79096.
