Arlington D. "Rocky" Ash, 75, of Clyde died Saturday, August 23, 2014 at a Lubbock hospital.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the Clyde Church of Christ. A Masonic graveside will follow in the Clyde Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at the funeral home.

Rocky was born September 13, 1938 in Desdemona, Texas to Johnny & Minnie (Young) Ash.

He graduated from Desdemona High School in 1957 and attended West Texas State at Canyon on a basketball scholarship.

Rocky married Mary Jo "Jodi" Olney December 6, 1958 in Eastland.

They moved to Clyde from Abilene in 1960.

Rocky served in the U. S. Navy as a Seabee.

He worked for 31 years for Southwest Bell which later changed to AT&T from 1961 to 1992.

Rocky was a member of the Clyde Church of Christ, the Masonic Lodge in Baird and Kiwanis International.

He was the owner of Rocky Ash Auction and Communications Company for 50 years.

As a young man he was an amateur boxer in the Golden Gloves reaching the national finals and got knocked out 2 fights prior to fighting Mohammed Ali or Cassius Clay as he was known at the time.

Rocky and Ted McCloud helped build the girls softball park and Rocky donated the materials and labor for the first park.

Rocky volunteered his auction time and labor for charity auctions, Masonic Lodge Scholarship fund, Ben Richie Boys Ranch, Rehab Center, Jerry Lewis Telethon, Rescue the Animals, Toys for Tots, Clearfork Baptist Church in Hawley and Desdemona Community Center.

He donated buses to Medical Missions sending them to Africa and the many people who had a need for help.

Rocky is survived by his wife Jodi Olney Ash of Clyde; one son, Andy Ash and wife Sharon of Abilene; one daughter, April Johnson and husband Robert of Clyde; one brother, P.D. Ash and wife Margaret of Stephenville; one sister, Eula Jean McConal and husband D.J. of Stephenville; six grandchildren, Jordan Howe, Lance Johnson, Paige Johnson, Gatlin Ash, Caden Cannon and Shayne Ash and two great grandchildren, Kylie-Brooke and Delainie Johnson and one on the way, Kutter Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Johnny Ray and Arthur Ash, two sisters, Arloma Foreman and Arlena Burns.
