HICKORY -- Rebecca Whitener Drum of Hickory passed away Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at Catawba Regional Hospice, at the age of 87. Born in Catawba County June 24, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Dallas R. and Eula Bolch Whitener. Rebecca was a life-long member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard R. Drum; three brothers, A.P. Whitener, Gordon Whitener and Jake Whitener; and two sisters, infant Doris Ann Whitener and Gladys Sigmon. Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Adams and husband, Norman (Tony) Adams, of Hickory; a sister, Mary Hostetter, of Hickory; one grandson, Mark Adams, of Hickory; one granddaughter, Caroline Dees and husband, Stephen, of Johns Island, S.C.; and two great-grandsons, Charlie and Alex Dees. The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. William Miller-Zurell, Monday, Aug. 25, at 10 a.m., at Bass-Smith Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow the funeral service at Catawba Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made in Rebecca's memory to Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton NC, 28658 or Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 9580, Hickory, NC 28603. Bass-Smith Funeral Home will be serving the family of Rebecca Whitener Drum.
