MANSFIELD: James C. “Jim” Elliott, 81, of Bellaire Drive, Mansfield, died Sunday evening February 3, 2002 in his home following a long illness.

He was born March 16, 1920 in Springfield Township, Richland County, to Rolla J. and Florence M. (Cotter) Elliott, was graduated from Springfield Township High School in 1937, and was a team member of the basketball team that was undefeated in league play, Richland County Tournament, 5th District Tournament, only to be defeated by the State Champion Upper Sandusky in the State Tournament.

Jim served with the US Navy during WWII, and was a member of AMVETS Post #26 and American Legion Post #16.

He worked at Ideal Electric for 43 years, as a machinist and General Foreman. Jim served as past president of the Mansfield-Shelby-Ashland Foreman’s Club.

He was a lifelong member of Ontario United Methodist Church, Sons of Herman, Mansfield Liederkranz, and the Voiture #20 40 et 8.

An avid golfer, Jim participated in the American Legion Golf League, B League, 40/8 league and AMVETS Golf League. He operated a Post #16 American Legion Traveling League for eight years and served as Commission Chairman for the Department of Ohio American Legion Golf Association for ten years.

He is survived by his wife Margaret (Kisling) Elliott, whom he married November 19, 1943; a daughter and son-in-law Kimbarli J. and Greg Heller of Lexington; a son and daughter-in-law Tom C. and Billie Jo Elliott of Mansfield; three grandchildren and their spouses Jennifer and Joe Greene of Bellville, Heidi and Brent Wilson of Mansfield, Jason and Danise Elliott of Blountville, Tennessee; four great grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law Charles H. and Wilma Elliott of Galion and Jack and Georgia Elliott of Ontario; and nieces and nephews.

A sister Mary E. Smith is deceased.

Friends may call today Tuesday February 5, 2002 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where the 40 et 8 will hold a memorial service at 8 pm. The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1 pm in the funeral home. Dr. Clair H. Hess will officiate. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park, where the Richland County Joint Veterans Council will hold military graveside honors.
