Anne Marie “Amy” Haley Atkins was called to return to our Lord on Saturday, February 28, 2015, in Danville, Virginia. She was 71 years old. She was born on July 19, 1943 in Danville, VA, and she is the daughter of William Frederick Haley, Sr. and Rosemary Hellman Haley. Amy was a graduate of George Washington High School and Longwood College. She worked for many years as an elementary school teacher and a travel agent in South Boston, VA. After returning to Danville, she worked for National Business College, first as an Admissions Counselor and then as Director of Operations of the Danville Campus. Amy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was active in Cursillo.

Amy married her loving husband, Norman Andrew “Butch” Atkins on August 30, 1985. He remained by her side until her death. Amy is survived by her husband, Butch, her daughter Mary Garrett Itin (Bob) of Berwyn, PA; her son Edward Barksdale Watkins of Richmond, VA, her daughter-in-law Major Mary Melissa Watkins (USAF/Ret) of Goldsboro, NC, a step-daughter Dana Shively (Bobby) of Danville, and five grandchildren William and Mary Allison Watkins of Goldsboro, NC, Grant Itin of Berwyn, PA, and Tyler and Nathan Shively of Danville. She is also survived by her mother, Rosemary Hellman Haley of Danville, VA, and her siblings: Judith Haley Hooker (Timothy) of Clarksville, VA, Betty Stuart Haley Scott (James) of Beckley, WV, Charles Joseph Haley (Leslie) of Midlothian, VA, and William Frederick Haley, Jr. (Carolyn); Philip Andrew Haley (Patricia); Teresa Haley Hall (Phillip); and Jeffery Vernon Haley (Sarah) all of Danville, VA. She was also loved by 18 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Lt Col William Randolph Watkins, III and her father, William F. Haley. She will be remembered by her family as a woman who always sought the best in others and in life. She was known for her determination to live life to the best of her ability.

A MASS of the Resurrection will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 11:00 am, followed by a luncheon. Family will receive visitors at the residence of her brother, Jeff Haley, at 109 Fenton Place in Danville, on Monday, March 2, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

The family request in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Roman Eagle Memorial Home in honor of the staff who provided wonderful care to Amy over the last years of her life
