Sally was born in Lubbock, Texas and while a pre-schooler moved to a cotton farm some 10 miles west of Abernathy where she was raised by her late parents (mom and "Papa"), Jack and Pam Connell.

Sally attended all twelve grades at Abernathy schools where she is recognized as the all time record holder of tardy slips. While a freshman she met Wendell Barrick and they became sweethearts all through her high school years. She was active in various school activities including being a football cheerleader her senior year.

Immediately after graduation Sally and Wendell were married and left for Ft. Monmouth, N.J. where he was to be stationed in the army. Later they were stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas. During the army years their first son, Toby was born. After being discharged from the Army they returned to Lubbock for Wendell to finish at Texas Tech and for their second son, Todd, to be born. Later they lived in California a few years before returning to Texas in 1974 to begin farming.

Over the years Sally was always involved in some activity, selling Avon, Mary Kay Cosmetics – and she enrolled in Tech and graduated with a bachelors degree the year after Todd graduated from high school. Sally was ambitious and always wanted to be where the action was; she would MUCH rather be IN a parade than to watch one. Sally always had a love for flowers and gardening. She opened a flower shop (Alante Floral) in Abernathy and at one time had shops in three different towns. A Certified Texas Master Florist, she shared that love with others through her flower shops. She loved bringing joy to others and her three flower shops were her pride and joy. Sally was even published in a local magazine for her creativity in a food arrangement. Sally had a true passion for people and was dedicated to being a true friend. She made a point to always keep in touch with her friends and family. She enjoyed making special memories with her family, especially her grandchildren. Eventually she consolidated her florist operation into a single shop in Lubbock which she operated until she retired from the floral business and Wendell from farming at the beginning of 2007 Wendell and Sally took time to plan out and build their dream home and then, a couple of years after retirement, they moved to Leander, Texas and realized their dream – Sally loved her house and not too long ago stated that she was the happiest she had ever been . Swinging on the porch listening to the birds sing was one of their favorite things. They were actively involved in the First Baptist Church of Georgetown and enjoyed get-togethers with their Sunday School Class – technically known as Waley Life Group.

She is survived by her husband Wendell Barrick, her son Toby Barrick and his wife Lynn, her son Todd Barrick and his wife Christie, and grandchildren Sarah, Michael, Ada, and Ruby. She is survived by her sister Carol Halford and her husband Howard and her brother Mannie Connell and his wife Charlotte. She was preceded in death by her brother Joe Connell and his wife Joyce.

Memorial Service will be held, Saturday August 23, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church of Georgetown.
