— OAKLAND — Troy R. Gnegy , 81, of Pleasant Valley Road, died at his home on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014.

He was born at Oakland, on March 20, 1933, and was the son of the late Ray Russell Gnegy and Flo (Childs) Gnegy . He was preceded in death by two sisters, Beryl Mussard and Elsie Bernard.

He attended the Faith Evangelical Free Church in Mountain Lake Park. He was the owner of Troy R. Gnegy Construction Company. He started over 50 years ago with his first modest A-frame cabin. Since then, he has built over 300 vacation homes around Deep Creek Lake. He devoted many years to farming and was a collector of old tractors and antique toys, and had a great love for operating heavy equipment and enjoyed hunting.

He was on the Garrett County Board of Education for many years and also served on the Garrett County Zoning Board and the Tax Appeal Board. He served on the museum committee for the Museum of Transportation as well as built the museum. He also built the Faith Evangelical Free Church in Mountain Lake Park. He was a long time supporter of "Save Blackwater Canyon," Oakland Rescue Squad, Oakland Hospital and many other local organizations. He also drove a school bus for Garrett County from 1959 to the 70's.

Troy is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Frances Maxine (Friend) Gnegy . He is also survived by his sons, Stephen Gnegy and wife, Brenda, and Thomas Gnegy , both of Oakland; and his daughters, Cheryl Gnegy , of Oakland, Cynthia Gnegy , of Fort Worth, Texas, and Jacquelynn Clark and husband, Russell, of Ormond Beach, Fla. He is also survived by his four beloved grandchildren, Katey Gnegy , Hannah Gnegy , Zachariah Litsinger and Clint Gnegy -Davidson and his four legged friend, Eden.

Friends will be received at the Faith Evangelical Free Church in Mountain Lake Park, on Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the church on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Kroll and the Rev. William Tolliver officiating.

Interment will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

The family request that memorials be directed to Hospice of Garrett County, 69 Wolf Acres Drive, Oakland MD or to the Oakland Transportation Museum, E. Liberty St. in Oakland, MD. 21550.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fredlock Funeral Home in Piedmont, W.Va.
