William S. Alsop attended the University of Virginia. He married Louisa Minor Young 2 April 1861, just a few days before the Battle of Fort Sumter. The couple did not have any children. During the Civil War, William was the "Acting Commissary of Subsistence" in the 9th Regiment of Virginia Cavalry , CSA. He rose to the rank of captain. By 1912, his farm had been sold, and William lived in Fredericksburg. Louisa had died in 1909 and was buried in the Fredericksburg City Cemetery in the Young plot. William died in 1913, and was also buried there, but not with his wife.
