Laura was one of 18 children born to Kersey Coulson and Edith Reynolds Coulson. Some of her brothers and sisters are buried in West Nottingham Friends Cemetery, Harrisville, Cecil County, Maryland, as are her parents. Her parents and some of her brothers and sisters died quite young.
