Mary “Rachel” (Bonderer) Coburn, age 91, resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away at Delmar Gardens of Lenexa, Lenexa, Kansas.
Rachel was born the daughter of Frank and Mary (Culling) Bonderer on February 21, 1923, in Utica, Missouri. She was a 1941 graduate of the St. Joseph Academy and attended Chillicothe Business College. She took the Civil Service Test and was employed in the Treasury Department in Washington D.C. Upon her return from Virginia, she married Kenneth Coburn of Wheeling, Missouri. They were united in marriage on March 2, 1944, in Chillicothe, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 24, 2000. In the early 1950’s, Rachel organized an extension club in Avalon, Missouri. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, serving as past President, Jolly James - Extension Club, Women’s Democrat Club, and the Traveling Gourmet Club. She was a recipient of the RSVP Volunteer of the Year Award as well as the Jerry Litton Award.
She is survived by her brothers Walt Bonderer, of Chillicothe, MO and Brother Blaise (George) Bonderer, OSB, Conception Abbey; and her sister, Virginia Wilson, Pueblo West, Colorado. Her daughter; Judi Auman (Aaron) of Overland Park, KS; son, Jim (Loretta) Coburn of Carl Junction, MO and six grandchildren; Kristine Englert, David Kinsella (Virginia); Daniel Kinsella (Stephanie); Jeff Kinsella (Kandi); Jeremy Coburn, and Jennifer Goetz (Tyson); thirteen great-grandchildren; Stephen, Spencer and Liam Englert (Kristine) Nicholas and Cecilia Kinsella (David) ;Rachel and Sam Kinsella (Daniel) and Colton and Kayli Kinsella (Jeff); Allie Coburn (Jeremy) and , Noah, Eli and Jude Goetz (Jennifer) and an abundance of nieces, nephews and friends.
Rachel is preceded in death by her husband, Ken, her parents, Francis (Frank) Eugene and Mary A. Culling Bonderer; her sisters, Catherine A. Garr and Helen R. Wilson; her brothers, Maurice, Bernard, David, John, Albert and Franklin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Columban’s Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Thursday, August 21, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. A Parish Rosary will be held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at 5:30 p.m. with a family visitation to follow until 7:30 p.m. Friends may call at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be held at Leopolis Cemetery, Chula, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to Bishop Hogan School and/or the Conception Abbey and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
