Born on July 19, 1922 in Mankato, Minnesota she was the daughter of Charles and Ester (Flannagan) Alexander. Phyllis attended school in Mankato before marrying Kenneth Bowdish on May 17, 1953 in Rapid City, SD. Phyllis worked as a homemaker and took pride in raising her family. She would often babysit other children and was affectionately known as “Grandma B.” She enjoyed singing, playing bingo, crafts, listening to music, and watching sci-fi television shows.
Phyllis is survived by seven children, Carol Martz of Lanark, IL, Bill (Joyce) Polchow of Walker, Barbara (Stan) Thompson of Jordan, Juanita Masters of Winnebago, Joanie (Gene) Klienow of Good Thunder, Kathy Tester of Mankato, and Jo Ann (Ron) Haslip of Waterville; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Phil (Rena) Alexander of Miami, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, ten children – Robert, Mary, Marvin, Ricky, Linda, Benny, Casey, Lori, Danny and Roger, six siblings – Stella, Mugs, Eppie, Don, Sandy, and Paul, and two great grandchildren – Meranda and Alicia.
Memorial services will be held at the Prosch-Dennis Funeral in Waterville on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 3:00 PM. Visitation will be held on Thursday, one hour before services at the funeral home. Interment will take place later in the spring at Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery in Mankato.
