Troy, IL--Mrs. Bessie Ophelia Hampton of 112 West St. died Monday at 6:20 p.m. at the Helvetia Nursing Home. She had been a patient there five weeks.
Mrs. Hampton, daughter of Edwin R. and Martha Shires Bunch, was born Feb. 10, 1893 at Waxahackie, Texas. She was married to Sollie Hampton on Dec. 24, 1923 at Colgate, Okla. Mr. Hampton died last Jan. 15.
Surviving are a son, Omar R. Hampton of Troy, and two grandchildren.
Mrs. Hampton, a former Sunday school teacher, was a member of the Troy Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Merry Workers and International Ladies Garment Workers Union 335 at Collinsville.
Friends may call at Edwards Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Tuesday until Thursday noon. Funeral services will be Thursday afternoon at 2 from the Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Oliver Chumchal will officiate. Burial will be in Friedens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include Vorhees Conley, Ray Matthews, Arlo Puhse, Ed Lieb, Allan Shaffer and Paul Sims.
