Gale L. Colvin Sr., age 87, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, at Schoenbrunn Healthcare at New Philadelhia, O., following a brief illness.

Born Jan. 21, 1918, at New Philadelphia, O., Gale was the son of the late Charles A. Colvin and Maude M. (Seibert) Colvin.

On Nov. 25, 1939, Gale married Verna M.(Burroway) Colvin. Verna passed away May 27, 2001. Gale served his country in the United States Army from February 1945 to October 1946, having been promoted to the rank of Sergeant on July 26, 1946. He received the Philippine Independence Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Gale was employed as a tool and die maker for Joy Manufacturing in New Philadelphia, O. He retired in 1974 after 35 years of employment.

Gale was a lifelong resident of the area, a volunteer Fireman for Rush Township and attended the Rush Community Church of the Nazarene in Rush Township, Uhrichsville, O. His hobbies included woodworking and being a handyman, and he enjoyed being an inventor at Joy Manufacturing.

Gale is survived by his children, Honey Sue Huffman of Uhrichsville, O., Gale L. (Kathy) Colvin Jr. of Medinah, Ill., Calvin L. (Ramona) Colvin of Eastlake, O., Gary C. (Geri) Colvin of Uhrichsville, O., and Dennis V. (Cindy) Colvin of Uhrichsville, O.; one sister, Edna Cognato of Buffalo, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Charles A. and Maude M. [Seibert] Colvin, his wife, Verna M. Colvin, two sisters and two brothers precede Gale in death.

Funeral services for Gale will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at the Uhrich-Hostettler Funeral Home Inc. at Uhrichsville, O., with the Rev. Douglas Downs officiating. Burial will take place at Union Cemetery at Uhrichs-ville, O., with the Tuscarawas VFW Post 7943 conducting Veterans Military graveside services. Fellowship will be held at the Rush Community Church of the Nazarene immediately following graveside services.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, 2005, at the funeral home.
