GRIDLEY, Sept. 9. – Edward Jerome Bettencourt, 20, was injured fatally yesterday when a chain broke while he was lifting some doors to the top of his parent's barn, causing him to plunge 25 feet to a concrete floor.
His skull was fractured. He died last night in an Oroville hospital.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bettencourt and was a graduate of the Gridley Union High School. He also leaves three brothers and a sister.
