David, along with brothers, Henry and George, were the first white men to settle in Page County, Iowa in 1841. On March 2, 1854 he married Elizabeth Davison in Hawleyville, Page County. They lived in a log cabin near Braddyville where they raised 13 children. About 1888 they moved to Burt County, Nebraska where most of their children settled and raised their own families.
