Harris H. Bisser, 84, of 35 Wilmar Drive, retired vice president and loan officer for Gem City Savings and Loan Association, died at 9:15 a.m. Thursday (Dec. 5, 1996) in Blessing Hospital.
Born Sept. 27, 1912, in Quincy, he was a son of Otto and Selma Spilker Bisser. He married Gladys Hyndman Nov. 15, 1952, in Quincy. She died April 30, 1987. He later married Ann Smith. She survives.
Mr. Bisser graduated from Quincy High School and received a bachelor of arts degree in accounting from Gem City Business College. He also was a graduate of the U.S. Army School of Finance at Duke University. Mr. Bisser was vice president and loan officer for Gem City Savings and Loan Association from April 1935 until his retirement Dec. 31, 1977. He served in the Army during World War II from 1941 to 1946. He was a retired major of the U.S. Army Finance Corps, was an active member of the Army Reserve in Quincy, and was a member of the Reserve Officers Association.
He was a lifelong member of Trinity United Church of Christ, where he served as past president and treasurer of the Trinity church council and was an active elder. He was also a member of Lambert Lodge 659, Quincy Consistory, High Twelve, Quincy Shrine Club and Ansar Shrine Temple of Springfield.
Survivors also include a son, Robert F. Bisser of Quincy; three grandchildren, Bradley Bisser of Mesa, Ariz., David Bisser of Peoria and Jennifer Bisser of Quincy; a sister, Mrs. Florine McCune of San Manuel, Ariz.; and nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by a sister, Vernice Lugering.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Trinity United Church of Christ by the Rev. Timothy White. Private inurnment will be in Greenmount Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be held 5-8 tonight in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and one hour before services Saturday in the church.
Memorials may be given to Trinity United Church of Christ, Quincy High Twelve or Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital.
