TABERG – Colonel C. Kilbourn, 78, fire chief for 23 years and a town assessor, died Wednesday at his home in this village.
A native of the Town of Annsville, he was born May 30, 1877, the son of George H. and Helen Robbins Kilbourn. He was thrice married. His first wife was the former Ella Quinton. She died April 28, 1928. He then married Elizabeth Beach on Dec. 25, 1930 and she passed away Feb. 8, 1946. On May 30, 1949, he married Edith Dean.
Mr. Kilbourn was president of the Maple Hill Cemetery Assn, a 40 year member of Baron Steuben Lodge, F&AM., town assessor and chief of the Taberg Volunteer Fire Department for 23 years.
He served as first president of the Lincoln Republican Club and was road commissioner of the town for six years.
Mr. Kilbourn owned and operated a gasoline station in the village for 12 years, and was traveling mechanic for the International Harvester Co. from 1906 to 1907. He also had been a partner with his brother, Delos, in the manufacture of sleighs and wagons for a number of years.
He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Herman Walker, Camden, a son, Elmer, Taberg, nine grandchildren; a brother, H. Delos Kilbourn, Taberg; two step-sons, four step-daughters and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services, in charge of B. A. Sanborn and Son, Camden, will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at his home in Taberg, with the Rev. John R. Jacobs and the Rev. George Butler, officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call at his home at their convenience.
Members of the Taberg Fire Department will meet at 8 tonight at the engine house to go to his home to pay their respects.
