Babe Ruth Duett, age 75, of Preston, Missouri, formerly of Mount Vernon, Missouri passed away at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at her home. She was born September 2, 1938 in Morgan County, Missouri, the daughter of the late John A. and Anna B. (Metzler) Brown. Babe worked as a nurses' aide for the Aurora Nursing Home and the Windsor Nursing Home. She also worked alongside her husband, Samuel, at their Fina Gas Stations and was a member of the Mount Vernon an Aurora Eagles Lodge.
In 1967, she married Samuel Higgins and he preceded her in death in February 1977. On November 9, 1991, she married Dean Martin Duett in Mount Vernon. He preceded her in death on November 11, 2013.
She will be dearly missed by her children, Jeannie (David) Keiser of Preston, Missouri, Cecillia Augustine of Hays, Kansas, Loretta (Steve) Flesner of Eldon, Missouri, Bill (Naomi) Augustine of Belton, Missouri, and Willametta W. Augustine of Mount Vernon; step-children, Audrey (Dave) Dennis of Mount Vernon, Sandy (Randy) Sharp and Brenda Oliver of Independence, Missouri, Christy Duett of Aurora, William Owens of Belton, Missouri and Steve and Maurice Higgins; one sister, Delpha Faro of California; two brothers, Jim S. Brown of Warsaw, Missouri and Charles Brown of Independence; 20 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Her four children, Ruth E. Brown, Lucille Augustine, Joel R. Augustine and Cheryl Ward, stepson, Howard Higgins, six siblings, Rose, Laurie and John W. Brown, Lee Trowbridge, Susan Higdon and Clara Cole, and a step-grandson preceded her in death.
A graveside service, under the direction of Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mount Vernon will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the Mount Vernon City Cemetery.
