"Death yesterday morning took Cohoes’ last Civil War veteran. William Francis Clark, 97, died at his residence, 75 Central Terrace, after a brief illness.
"With his death, the N. G. Lyon Post 43, Civil War Veterans, came to an end. Despite his age Mr. Clark carried on the work of the post until his death. Throughout last week he was active about his home, although he took no part in public life for the last few years.
"Native of New York, he lived most of his life in Cohoes. He was a bricklayer and was a member of the Bricklayers’ Union. He enlisted March 14, 1865, served with the 144th Infantry Regiment, Company A., and was discharged June 25, 1865.
"He was a member of St. James’ Methodist Church. Survivors are his niece, Miss Mary Sherry of Cohoes and a nephew, John Sherry of Wynantskill.
"Services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the late residence, with Rev. Earl C. Fryer, pastor of St. James’ Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Waterford Rural Cemetery."
