Sarah Jane Taylor was born 16 Nov 1844 in Captin Carys Lane, Bristol, England to Stephen King Taylor and Adelia Caroline (Rogers or Rodgers) Taylor. She was the 7th of 10 children. Her siblings were: Stephan Taylor, about 1828; Margaret Taylor, about 1830; Stephen Nicholas Taylor, 22 Dec 1834; Margaret Taylor, 1 Nov 1836; Emily Taylor, 16 Feb 1840; Elizabeth Taylor, 27 Apr 1842; Joseph Hyrum Taylor, 16 Mar 1850; Stephan Taylor, about 1852; Margaret Taylor about 1854.

Sarah immigrated to Utah at the age of 15 with her Mother, Father and siblings in 1860. They crossed the plains with the John Taylor Company which was called the Iowa Company, this company actually consisted of English and Danish emigrants who had settled temporarily in various places in the United States, but especially in Iowa and Nebraska. The company started from Florence, Nebraska Territory, on July 3 with 123 emigrants, 23 wagons, 61 oxen, and 32 cows. John Taylor (not the Apostle and future President, but an early settler in Tooele) was company captain. Jens Peter Christensen was his assistant. Christensen had just spent a year presiding over a Danish branch in Alton, Illinois. On July 16, they had traveled to just west of Eagle Island, Nebraska Territory and on July 26 they were near Ash Hollow. They arrived in Salt Lake City on September 17 with 16 wagons. There had been one birth and no deaths.

Sarah met Henry Florence and they were married 13 Nov 1861 in Big Cottonwood, Salt Lake, Utah. Sarah had one daughter in Big Cottonwood before they moved to Rushe Valley, Tooele, Utah. There they had two more daughters. Sarah and Henry and their three daughters then moved to Porterville, Utah in 1866 to buy acreage from the Union Pacific Railroad, which included the hilltop where several burials had been made. Henry continued to allow burials and he acted as sexton. In 1911 he deeded the two-acre plot to the Porterville Ward, which became the Porterville Cemetery.

Henry and Sarah had 14 children: Harriet Emily Florence, 30 Sep 1862; Caroline Elizabeth Florence, 7 Nov 1863; Sarah Ann Florence, 18 May 1865; Joseph Henry Florence, 9 May 1867; William Thomas Florence, 2 Jul 1869; Samuel Stephen Florence, 8 May 1871; Mary Ellen Florence, 10 Mar 1873; James Florence, 2 Jan 1875; George Waller Florence, 3 Jun 1877; Margaret Belle Florence, 18 Apr 1879; Susan Lette Florence, 6 Apr 1881; John Andrew Florence, 10 Jan 1884; Fredrick Arthur Florence, 16 Apr 1886; Harvey Kelley Florence, 25 Feb 1888.

Sarah died 17 Dec 1908 in Porterville, Morgan, Utah, 17 years before her husband Henry.
