Bobbie Jean Bousman O'Dell, 70, Liberty, MO, died Saturday, April 5, 1997, at St. Luke's Hospital, of a rare lung disease. She died on her grandson Ashley Benson's birthday. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1130 Clayview Drive, Liberty, MO; burial in Glenridge Cemetery. Friends may call 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home in Liberty.
Bobbie was born October 5, 1926, in Reserve, KS, to Marian Mable Keeton Bousman and Claude Daniel Bousman, Jr. She was raised in Wyandotte County, KS. She married Cecil F. O'Dell on December 4, 1946, in Wyandotte Coutny.
They had four daughters.
Bobbie was a devoted wife and mother. She had a firm conviction that families are forever, and dedicated her life to her family. She loved her children and grandchildren, and would sit with them for hours listening to them talk. She was concerned about the welfare of each individual, even as her health deteriorated. A grandchild remembers that grandma ''loved me unconditionally.
Through my weaknesses or pain, grandma was always there to listen and not to judge. '' Another grandchild wrote to his grandmother during her illness: ''I've always felt safe and loved with you....
You've always been there to let me know that I could find happiness and love, too....
Your house has always felt like home: safe, secure, loving. '' A daughter noted that, although her mother was a quiet person, she ''pulled no punches'' and had a way of making everyone feel special.
Her family and friends could feel her genuine, unconditional love for them.
Family members fondly recall Bobbie's beautiful blue eyes. She loved flowers, and had studied flower arranging.
Bobbie joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS Church) in 1966, and was active in Family History research. She volunteered regularly at the LDS Family History Center in Liberty. She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Ashley Benson; and a sister, Patsy Ruth Barnes. She is survived by her husband, Cecil F. O'Dell; daughters, Dana Linn Basnett, Tulsa, OK, Jana Kay Claussen, Kansas City, MO, Tamie Jean Eshenr oder, Kearney, MO, Jodie Elaine Rogers, Lawson, MO, and Sharon Smith, North Bend, OR, a daughter by a previous marriage; brothers and sisters, Claude Daniel Bousman II, JoAnne Breidenthal, Martha Phillips, Charlie Bousman, Mary Bousman, Judy Lynn Bousman and Thomas Penney Bousman; grandchildren, Christopher, Aaron, Chad, Charly, Austin, Josh, Abbie, Katie, Heather, Alison, Daniel and Lorin; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Ashley, Cecilia and Haeley.
We miss thee, my wife, our mother and grandmother.
Thy image is still the deepest impressed on our hearts.

JUST THE OTHER NIGHT
(A poem written March 1997 by a grandchild of Bobbie Bousman O'Dell)
It seems to be that inside of me
I feel so lost, yet I'm aware
Of the many things which bring
Me down.
Just the other night we were
Together laughing, enjoying every
Single moment.
But for today you aren't here.
I hear not a laugh but a cry.
From everyone who loves you dear.
Doctors and Nurses say everything's
Just fine.
But by the looks on Mom's face
I know deep inside you are not
As well as you make out to be.
I sit with the loneliness inside
So afraid you might die.
Without you in my world I would be
Nothing.
The trees would look
Sad and droopy.
I would be so torn, my
Heart would just break in half.
Just the other night we were
Together.
We all enjoyed ourselves.
When we left we said
I love you
Gave our kisses, our hugs
Then left.
It all seemed as if nothing
Was wrong.
I want you to know you
Make a great actress.
Because now you are in pain
Just lying there alone.
When...
Just the other night we
Were together laughing.
