Mary Ann Maguire was born the first of four children to Catherine Moore and John Maguire near Sandusky, Ohio. Mother Catherine was pregnant with Mary Ann when she left County Cavan, Ireland in 1859. Mary Ann's daughter Edith Louise used to laugh saying her Mother was smuggled into America.
Mary Ann has siblings Catherine "Kate" Maguire Marshall, Rosetta Maguire, Ella Maguire Spring and John Francis "Jack" Maguire.
The family left Ohio for San Luis Obispo County, California by 1874. Mary Ann met and married Swedish immigrant Frank Joseph Hunter on May 4, 1876 in San Joaquin, CA when she was sixteen years old.
Mary Ann and Frank headed north and settled in Crockett, California. They were blessed with 11 children who were known as a "scrappy" bunch. Children Elizabeth Rosetta, Mamie Catherine, Sophia Ella, Dora, Francis Joseph, John "Edward", Laura Grace, Edith Louise, Mabel "Emma", Oscar Harold and James "Arnold" Hunter. All the children lived to adulthood but son Oscar.
Mary Ann was a loving mother to all her children who cherished her. Mary Ann had been an invalid for many years prior to her death at age 63. She requested to be buried at Alhambra Cemetery to be close to all her friends.
