Mr. Alton Wayne Absher, age 79, of North Wilkesboro died Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Wilkes Senior Village.
Funeral services will be held Friday 3:00 PM, August 15, 2014 at Baptist Home Baptist Church with Rev. Stuart White and Rev. Scott Church officiating. Burial with military honors by Post #1142 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 until 2:30 at the church prior to the service.
Mr. Absher was born May 16, 1935 in Wilkes County to Claude and Virgie Elledge Absher. Before retiring, he worked for Tyson Foods. He was a member of Baptist Home Baptist Church and a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. Mr. Absher served in the United States Air Force.
He is survived by: a very special friend, Pod Wyatt of North Wilkesboro; two daughters, Tina Tomberlin and husband, Sonny of North Myrtle Beach, Terri Daughtry and husband, Jerry of Newland; one son, Jeff Absher of Charlotte; five grandchildren, Allison Hinson, Meghan Craig, Lindsey Shelton, Matt Daughtry, Ashley Daughtry; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margie Norman of Wilkesboro, Brenda Carpenter of Kannapolis; five nieces and two nephews, Jimmy Norman, Sharon Bryant, Hulon Hyde, Melissa Forster, Scotty Dancy, Kelly Church, Rebecca Church.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Baptist Home Baptist Church Building Fund, 2367 Sparta Road, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659. Pallbearers will be members of the Friendship Sunday School Class at Baptist Home Baptist Church.
