Lorraine B. Simmons, 85, of 1023 W. Main St., Vevay, the Swiss Villa Living Center, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006, at King's Daughters' Hospital.

She was born Dec. 24, 1920, in Owen County, Ky., the daughter of Luther and Marie Boone Duvall. She had been employed as a cook at the Jefferson County Jail during the administration of Sheriff Harold "Jug" Raisor; had worked at U.S. Shoe Corp., had been a nurse's aide at King's Daughters' Hospital; and retired as an attending from Madison State Hospital. She had owned and operated a restaurant in Vevay for several years, and had worked at the former Jackson's Restaurant in Madison. She was a member of Brooksburg Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, singing, playing the harmonica and raising flowers.

Surviving are one daughter, Sharon S. Bliton of Madison; three sons, James E. Simmons of Vevay, Carroll Thomas Simmons of Madison and Robert A. Simmons of Holton; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert D. Simmons, whom she married Dec. 24, 1936, and who died April 29, 1997; one sister, Sally Duvall; one brother, Estel Duvall; and one grandson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Vail-Holt Funeral Home Madison Chapel, with burial in Brooksburg Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. Thursday until the service.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Brooksburg Baptist Church. Contribution cards will be available at the funeral home.
