ARAPAHOE -- Donald D. Adams, 81, died Wednesday (Feb. 22, 2006) at the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe.

He was born on Nov. 4, 1924, in Cambridge to Merle L. and Anna C. (Jacobson) Adams.

He graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1941. He attended Denver School of Commerce and the University of Nebraska.

He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in February 1943. He later transferred to the U.S. Army, serving in Korea and Japan. He was discharged in 1946.

He started Adams Construction Company in Arapahoe, which he ran for 60 years.

On Aug. 23, 1947, he married Lila V. Helton in North Platte.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Arapahoe, serving on various committees. He was a member of the Arapahoe Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club of Arapahoe, American Legion Post No. 96, Arapahoe VFW Post No. 9357, Monument Lodge No. 293 A.F. & A.M and Rena Chapter No. 212, Eastern Star. He also served on the Arapahoe City Council, the C.A. Mues Rest Home board, Arapahoe School Board, Central Nebraska Technical Community College board and the University of Nebraska Technical College of Agriculture board. He was a past vice president and director of Nebraska Association of General Contractors, a member and area director and with the Nebraska Land Improvement Contractors Association, a member of the Nebraska Cattleman's Association, Elks Club of McCook and the Tehama Shriners A.A.O.N.M.S. of Hastings.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter in infancy, Dawn Elaine Adams.

Survivors include his wife, Lila Adams of Arapahoe; sons, Michael and wife, Melody Adams and Merle and wife, Benita Adams, all of Arapahoe; daughter, Christine and husband, Doug Snyder of Arapahoe; sister, VeraFaye Lewis of Arapahoe; and five grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. Michael Flury officiating. Interment with military honors will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery.

Visitation will be today, until 8 p.m., and Friday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and Saturday, prior to services, at the church.
