Obituary
"Aurora Bulletin", February 14, 1929 edition

"Our community was saddened by the death of our friend and neighbor, Mrs. Arvilla Christy.

"Arvilla Baker Christy, daughter of Nelson and Amanda Richardson Baker, was born at Wilmington, Ind., April 28, 1850 and peacefully passed away at her home on Friday evening, Feb. 1, 1929, age 78 years, 9 months and 3 days.

"Her parents were blessed with 10 children: 6 daughters and 4 sons. The following sisters and brothers survive her: Mrs. Alice Thomas, Portage, Wisconsin; Mrs. Eliza Cosby, Perryville, Ind.; Mrs. Hattie Ewbank, Farmer's City, Ill.; Charley Baker, Portage, Wis.; Emanuel Baker, Monroe Center, Ind.; George Baker, Cincinnati, O.; Edward Baker, Monroe Center, Ill.

"On Sept. 25, 1871 she was united in marriage to Alfred J. Christy with whom she lived happily for more than half a century.

"Her devoted husband departed this life on Oct. 16, 1928, preceding her only three and one half months to their heavenly home. She has gone to join him in that better land.

"Mr. and Mrs. Christy's home was blessed with six children, three daughters and three sons; only one son, Herbert N. Christy, of Aurora, surviving. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law and two grandchildren, Robert Christy and Mrs. Inez Ashcraft and her husband.

"In their home two other children were reared, Mrs. Florence Molder Sturgis of Richmond, Ind., and Mrs. Mildren Sturgis Morgan, who with her husband, resided with Mrs. Christy. Mrs. Christy lived her entire life in Hogan Township.

"She spent most of her life in the Mt. Sinai neighborhood and with her husband united with the Mt. Sinai Church.

"About eleven years ago they moved to Wilmington and united, by letter, with the Wilmington M.E. Church, under the pastorate of Rev. A.E. Chastain and remained loyal and helpful members. On account of her health, Mrs. Christy was unable to attend church services regularly, but her chief delight was to assist her husband, in every way possible that he might be present at church services. Mrs. Christy was in every deed and thought, pure, upright, honest and a firm believer in God's law, which she tried to emulate in her dealings with everyone.

"Beside her immediate family she is survived by her foster daughters and foster grandchildren.

"Funeral service was held Feb. 4, at Mt. Sinai Church, conducted by Rev. McWilliams, pastor of the Wilmington church. Burial in Mt. Sinai Cemetery."
