Mr. Frank Rhodes Adams, Jr., age 84 of Frederick passed away on Friday, August 8, 2014 at the Glade Valley Center, Walkersville. He was the husband for 61 years of Joan (Lipps) Adams whom he married on April 18, 1953. Born on July 12, 1930 in Frederick, he was the son of the late Frank R. and Anna (Poole) Adams. Mr. Adams was a 1947 graduate of Frederick High School. Following his graduation he enlisted with the United States Marines, serving his country honorably in Korea, where he landed at Inchon with the 1st Marine Division. He earned a Purple Heart among other awards and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his time in the service he worked at Fort Detrick as a paid firefighter and also volunteered at the Independent Hose Company. He later worked in health care beginning at Frederick Memorial Hospital, ultimately being promoted to Assistant Administrator. He continued his career as Administrator at the Frederick Nursing and Convalescent Center (now College View Center) and the Odd Fellows Home. He also enjoyed his part-time job at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home. In his free time he enjoyed Orioles baseball, fishing trips and traveling with his wife. He particularly loved their cruise to Alaska. Mr. Adams was an active member of the Frederick American Legion FSK Post 11 and Frederick AMVETS Post #2.

Mr. Adams was the father of Michael R. Adams and wife Theresa of Frederick and Jody Adams-Bilas and husband Kurt of Chantilly, VA; the grandfather of Alexis Slater and husband Stephen of Jefferson, Hank Adams of Frederick, Molly Adams of Frederick and Alex Bilas of Chantilly, VA; and the great-grandfather of Madeline Trainor and Aidan Trainor. He will be missed by his

Labrador Retriever, Princess. Mr. Adams is preceded in death by his daughter Leslie Ann Adams and siblings Virginia Adams, Ilean Kimmel, Norma Adams and Frances Smith.

Friends will be received on Friday, August 15, 2014 from 10 - 11 am at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick where a memorial service will begin at 11 am in the Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. Pastor Justin Thomas will officiate.
