Just as we go to press the sad intelligence of the death of Private W. B. Aikin, Headquarters Troop, 12th Cavalry, stationed at Hachita, New Mexico, is received here, bringing a deep and lasting sorrow to relatives and friends. The remains will arrive in Dardanelle over the Rock Island at 10 o'clock Monday morning and the funeral service will be help immediately thereafter at Brearley Cemetery. "Bill" Aikin, who was 31 years and 11 months of age, was born and reared in this city, being a son of the late Dr. Ed M., and Mrs. Lillie Aikin. For several years he was Deputy Circuit Clerk of this District and made an efficient, accommodating and popular officer. Immediately on the breaking out of war he volunteered his services to his country, becoming a member of the Twelfth Cavalry. He was an honorable, upright young man, loyal to his country, and his friends and true to his principles, and all who knew him join his heart-broken mother, sister and brothers in sorrowing at his untimely death. LATER: The funeral arrangements mentioned above have been changed. The service will be held at the family home at 2:30 Monday afternoon, instead of at Brearley Cemetery Monday morning.
