Joe was a member of the Eagles Club in Jeffersontown. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and U of L Cardinal football and basketball.
Joe was born March 22, 1958, in Louisville to the late Joseph and Joyce (Gothard) Abel.
Survivors include two sons, Jeff Abel and Shawn Abel; sister, Debbie Smith (Perry); one grandson, Paxton Abel; and many loving extended family and friends.
