James Thomas Clayton, 63, of paris died 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1992, at his home after an illness of about a year.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at McEvoy Funeral Home with Kenneth Brewer and Jimmy Allison officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. today.

Named as pallbearers were Darryl and Tellus Clayton, Dale and Russell Wallace, Clois McRee and Norris Wilson.

Born May 18, 1929, in Calloway County, Clayton was a son of the late Willie and Clara Ferguson Clayton. He was married July 4, 1947, to the former Faye Wallace, who survives. A member of New Bethel Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon for 20 years, he also had served as treasurer. He was a truck driver and deliveryman for Greer and Hamilton Oil Co. for 35 years and worked as long as health permitted.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Dorothy) Rice of Springville; a brother, Travis Clayton of Millington; and two grandchildren, Chris and Jason Rice.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Wallace Clayton, on Nov. 20, 1990.
