Ramona Elliott
Ramona Daryl Elliott was an outstandingly versatile young woman.
She not only was a popular student with high scholastic achievements, but she also was a talented musician, tennis and swimming champion and accomplished equestrienne.
Miss Elliott, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James D. Elliott of 3310 Las Palmas, who would have been 18 on Aug. 24, died yesterday in a Houston hospital after a week's illness.
Death was attributed to acute leukemia.
Just a week ago, she was in New Orleans, La., to work out her schedule for her second year in Sophie Newcomb. She became ill while there and was flown to Houston a week ago today. Until then, she had known no illness.
Miss Elliott finished her first year in Sophia Newcomb in June and had just completed six weeks of summer school at the University of Houston.
She was born in Houston, attended River Oaks Elementary and Lanier Schools before graduation from Hockaday School in Dallas.
Her parents own the Houston Cushion Co., and have a cattle ranch at Sealy where Miss Elliott enjoyed her horsemanship activities.
When she was here and not away at school, Miss Elliott sang in the choir of the First Presbyterian Church, of which she was a member. She also played the piano and accordion.
She was with the Hockaday choir which sang in special Easter services here in 1954.
Besides her parents, survivors are a brother, David J. Elliott, 12, a student at Riverside Military Academy in Georgia; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Brown of Sealy.
The Rev. Herbert Miller will officiate in services tomorrow at 4 p.m. in Heights Funeral Home and burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery.
