Christopher Columbus Perdue.
Christopher Columbus Perdue was born in Cabal county, West Virginia, October 7, 1841, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jackson in Dallas county, Iowa, February 17, 1914, aged 72 years, 4 months and 11 days. The subject of this sketch was the youngest of ten children.
He moved with his parents to Knox county, Illinois, when a child. At twelve years of age he moved to Franklin county, Iowa. Moved back to Warren county, Illinois, when he was eighteen years of age. He enlisted in Co. H 83rd Illinois Infantry, August 9, 1862, and served three years and was discharged at Chicago, Illinois, in 1865.
He moved to Clarke county, Ia., the same year. He was united in marriage to Nancy K. La Fallette in 1866 and to this union eleven children were born, five boys and six girls, all of whom are living but one girl who died in infancy and are as follows: J. W., Frank, C. E., O. C., D. D., Mrs. Tillie Jackson, Susie Critz, Mary Millard, Martha Wiley, Jessie Chumbley. The children al live in this county but Mrs. Jackson of Dallas county, and all were present at the funeral except her.
Mrs. Perdue died in 1909. He is also survived by two brothers, Thomas J. of Seward county, Nebr., and Dan of this county.
The funeral service was held from the Bethel church in Liberty township Saturday, February 21st at 1 o'clock conducted by Rev. D. H. Howry of Humeston, and interment made in Bethel cemetery.
A large congregation of friends and relatives were present to pay their last tributes of respect to the deceased.
