Services were Monday at the chapel of Moores Funeral Home. Burial was in Baldwin Memorial Gardens with Masonic rites.
Mr. Brookins was a native of Hancock County and lived in Milledgeville for many years. He was a retired employee of Central State Hospital. He was the son of the late Annie Garland and George W. Brookins. He was a Mason with Benevolent Lodge No.3, past master and served in 1976. He was a member of Tri-County Shrine Club, where he served as president in 1970, and of Northside Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Johnson Brookins of Milledgeville; three sons, John K. Brookins Jr. of Tifton, Al Brookins of Ivey and Michael Shane Brookins of Milledgeville; a daughter Glenda Brookins Chandler of Milledgeville; three sisters, Nell Knowles of Milledgeville and Margaret Massey and Sara Smith, both of Macon; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Memorial contributions may be made to Northside Baptist Church Building Fund or the Shriner's hospital.
