PVT. CLAUDE SHOEMAKER

The body of Pvt. Claude D. Shoemaker was expected to arrive in Springfield early this morning, being returned from Guadalcanal, where he was killed in action, September 20, 1942. He had enlisted in the Marines shortly after Pearl Harbor.

Private Shoemaker was educated at West Plains, but worked at the Kentwood Arms in Springfield for a time prior to entering the service. He was 34 at the time of his death.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. M. C. Shoemaker, 1140 East National, and three brothers, A. W. and Clay, both of Culver City, Cal., and Bob Shoemaker of San Bruno, Cal.

Graveside services will beheld at 10 o'clock Friday morning in National cemetery with the American Legion conducting military services. R. L. Holt, educational director of First Baptist church will officiate, and burial will be under direction of Alma Lohmeyer-Jewell E. Windle.
