Mary Louise, the daughter of William and Melinda (Avery) Hammond was born about 1814 in Colchester, CT. She was the wife of Elisha Vibber Avery. Their children were Albert H., Henry Elisha, Hattie M., Mary Ann, John Loren, George W., Harriet Jane, and Celinda Imogene (Emma). The home in the photo to the right is located on Rattlesnake Ledge Road in Salem, CT. It was bought by William Hammond from the estate of Silas Chapman in 1845. He willed it to his daughter Mary Louise Avery. After she died the property was sold on March 24, 1892. Later on the outside of the home was modernized but the large old fireplace where generations of families cooked the daily meals still remains in 1989.
