Reading Eagle, April 25, 1916, page 6:
Harry C. King, a well-known railroad engineer, died very unexpectedly under unusual circumstances, at 2:30 a.m., today, at his residence, 416 North Eleventh street.
Deceased was employed as an engineer for the last 10 years on the mail line of the Reading road. Last Friday evening, during the heavy rainstorm, he was on duty. While near Tamaqua, he was compelled to lean from the cab window of the locomotive he had charge of in order in order to get a clear vision of the track, because of the falling rain. The result was his whole right side of his body became soaking wet. Instead of changing his clothes immediately, he endeavored to dry himself hurriedly by standing in front of the fire box of the engine. Not long after he returned home from his trip he was stricken with a heavy cold which settled in his intestines. The family physician did everything in his power to relieve his patient, but his efforts were fruitless. After he received the stroke, all hope was given up for his recovery.
Deceased was born in this city and lived here all his life. He was a son of Samson E. and Hannah King. Before he worked as an engineer, he was employed as a fireman on the pay train, operating on the mail line of the Reading road. His father, for the last 24 years, has been the engineer of the passenger train, running between Reading and Slatington. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, Division No. 75; Sons of Veterans, Reading Aerie, No. 66, F.O.E., Ivy Leaf Association, P. & R. Relief Association and St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his widow, Dora (Angstadt), four children, Samson E., Mildred E., Winifred K. and Harry C. King, all at home; also one sister, Violet King, at home.
