James "Larry" Phillips, 72 years, of Omaha, NE formerly of North Bend, NE died Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha. Larry was born May 18, 1942 in Scottsbluff, NE to James and Julia(Ustohal)Phillips. He lived in Scottsbluff and Curtis, NE for a short time before moving to North Bend. He was a 1960 graduate of North Bend High School. Larry married Margaret R "Peg" Wernsman on October 14, 1967 in Prague, NE. He served in the Nebraska National Guard from 1964 to 1970. Larry owned and operated Jim's Used Car Market in North Bend and also was a rural letter carrier for the United States Postal Service until retiring in 2000.

Larry and Peg wintered in Texas for several years and then moved to Omaha in June 2013. Peg died on November 18, 2013.

Larry was an avid fisherman and enjoyed cooking on the grill. He was a member of the American Legion Post #340 of Morse Bluff and former member of the North Bend Chamber of Commerce. He attended St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend.

He is survived by daughters, Pamela Phillips of Omaha and Amy and husband, Bob Robles of Omaha; sister, Nancy and husband, Mike Goddard of LaVista, NE; brother-in-law, Robert Wernsman, Jr. of Lubbock, TX; sisters-in-law, JoAnn and husband, Dick Alback, Tracy Wernsman and Beth and husband, Matt Holland, all of Omaha. 1 granddaughter, Amanda and husband, Thomas Koziol; and 2 great grandchildren, Tommy and Korbin Koziol.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM., Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend, NE. The Rev. Greg Hall will officiate. Visitation on Friday from 3 PM to 8 PM and Saturday from 9 AM to 10:30 AM. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM all at the funeral home. Military graveside services conducted by members of the American Legion Post #340 of Morse Bluff, the V.F.W. Post #8223 and AmVets Post #20 of North Bend. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery near North Bend. Memorials may be given to the North Bend Library.
