OMENA PIONEER PASSES MONDAY
Mrs. S. E. Graham died Monday noon at her home, 207 East Eighth street, following a long illness.
Miss Sarah Elizabeth Green was born in West Liberty, Iowa, Dec. 9, 1853. Coming with her parents to Omena in 1868, she quickly identified herself with the educational and social life of Leelanau county, teaching in the public schools of Leland and Suttons Bay. In 1877 she was united in marriage to Captain Eli S. Graham. The couple made their home first at Omena, then in Davenport, Iowa and later again at Omena. Five children, two sons and three daughters were born to this union, three of whom survive their mother. Hugh A. Graham of Traverse City, Charles F. Graham of Chicago, and Mrs. Winnifred Dawson of Fenton, Michigan. Two daughters, Josephine Graham and Mrs. Edna Crisp preceded thier mother in death. Captain Graham was lost at sea during a severe storm in 1895. The family remained in Omena until near the close of the century when they moved to Traverse City.
Funeral services will be held at the Hibbard Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday. Rev. Keevil, pastor of the Christian Church, will officiate. Interment in the family lot at Omena.
A brief prayer service will be held at the grave at Omena at 4:00 p.m.
Eli and Sarah had five children: Hugh Alger Graham, Edna Ellen Graham, Josephine E. Graham, Charles Frederick Graham, and Winifred Amanda Graham.
