Mary E. "Bess" Kirby, 84, 837 N. Main St., died at 8:55 a.m., Thursday, December 28, 1978, in her home after a sudden illness. Born June 14, 1894 in Waterman, daughter of John and Elizabeth Corrigan Lynch. Lived most of her life in Rockford. Married to Lawrence Kirby in Lee; he died in 1965. Member of St. Peter Cathedral Parish. Survivors include a son James, Penilyn, PA; two daughters, Mrs. James (Dorothy) Barnett, Garden Grove, Calif., Mrs Allen (Sue Ann) Sapiega, Largo, Fla., ; two sisters, Mrs Helen Gleichman, Rockford, and Mrs. Margaret Powers in Florida; and 8 grandchildren. Services at 9 a.m. Saturday, December 30 in Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Home, 3910 N. Rockton Ave., and 9:30 a.m. in St. Peter Cathedral, with the Rev. Robert Sweeney, associate pastor, officiating. Burial in St. James Calvary Cemtery, Lee. Friends may call from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m..
