Eldest son of Stephen J. Kirby and Ellen Kennedy who are buried in St. Patricks Cemetery in Rochelle, IL. Operated Kirby and Kirby Farm Implement business in Steward, IL with his father. He was the Mayor of Steward in 1918, and later the postmaster. Thomas married Bridget Marrin on Oct 1, 1888. They had six children: Marguerite Ellen Kirby Herrmann, Stephen Francis Kirby, William J Kirby, Marcella Kirby Johnston, Harold J Kirby, and Mary Agnes Kirby Burke.

Thomas F. Kirby Passed Away

Thomas F. Kirby, 76, postmaster at Steward, died at his home in Steward at 7:30 A.M. Tuesday after an illness of three weeks. Mr. Kirby was born in Alto township, Lee County, November 13, 1866 the son of Stephen and Ellen Kirby. He married Miss Bridget Marion (sic) in Chicago on October 1, 1888. She preceede him in death on May 5, 1941. He was a life long resident of Lee County, and had been engaged in the implement business in Steward until his apointment as postmaster nine years ago.
Surviving are his six children: Mrs. Margaret Herrmann, Shabbona; Mrs. Marcella Johnston, Chicago; Mrs. Mary Burke, Lake Forest; Stephen, Wilmette; William, Oak Park; and Harold, Rochelle. He also leaves 13 grandchildren, six sisters, Mrs. John Sullivan, Rochelle; Mrs Anna Powers, Marengo; Mrs. Therese Hayward, Mrs. Emma LaPerle and the Misses Mildred and Catherine Kirby, all of Los Angeles, Cal. Five brothers also survive: Lawrence, Beloit; James, Richdale, Alberta, Canada; George, DeKalb; and Lucian and Aloysius of Los Angeles.
The funeral was held Thursday at St. James Catholic Church in Lee. The Rev. Fr. James Curran officiated and burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
