KIMBALL, S.D. - William Franklin "Bill" Crull, 83, of Kimball, S.D. passed away Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014 at The Neighborhoods at Brookview in Brookings, S.D. Bill was diagnosed with cancer in 1997 and staged a long battle against the disease.

Bill was born April 4, 1931 in Tipton, Ind. to Paul, Sr. and Thelma (Barnes) Crull.

He attended school in New Lancaster, and entered the U.S. Army serving as a tank mechanic during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1953. While serving in Korea he was honored as the top mechanic during a training school in Yung Dung Po, Korea.

He was united in marriage to Anna Louise Parker on Oct. 11, 1952 in Leisure, Ind.

He worked as a machine tool operator for Continental Can and for the Steel Slitting Company of Elwood.

He began farming near Elwood and then farmed near Greentown, Ind. from December 1960 until retiring in 1995 and moving to Kimball, S.D. to be near his daughters.

While in Kimball, he continued to keep busy woodworking as a retirement project. He also volunteered as a guide at the South Dakota Tractor Museum in Kimball. He was a member of the Kimball Drips American Legion Post #130 and enjoyed fishing and hunting in the Kimball area.

Grateful for having shared in Bill's life: his wife of 61 years, Anna; two daughters; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers; two sisters; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Raymond, Leon, Paul, Jr. and Wayne; and a sister, Velma Heflin.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014 at Kimball Protestant Parish. A Committal Service with military honors will follow at Kimball Community Cemetery,

Visitation will be held at the church from 6 to 9 p.m. today (Tuesday, Aug. 5).

Mount Funeral Home of Kimball is assisting with arrangements.
