OBIT: Audrey Lela Workman, 83, died unexpectedly from pneumonia on Friday, February 10, 2006 at Villa Maria Healthcare Center in Tucson, Arizona after struggling to recover from a stroke she suffered one year ago. Born August 20, 1922 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late George S. and Gladys (Vickers) Workman, Lela graduated from St. Mark’s Academy in 1939, and studied Commercial Art at Hadley Technical School in St. Louis. She married Leo A. Morgan, Jr. on February 7, 1942 and had four daughters while living in the Midwest. A short second marriage to Albert Ujlaky ended in divorce with no children. In addition to being a wife, mother and homemaker, Lela was an artist, author of short stories, avid reader, card player and loved jigsaw puzzles and classical music. Her professional career included sales in real estate, Rena Ware cookery, and Avon cosmetics. She provided administrative support for the Family Services Division of the State of Missouri Department of Economic Security from which she retired in 1989 and moved to J-6 Ranch near Benson, Arizona. A member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Benson, Lela’s other memberships included The Humane Society, North Shore Animal League, Republican National Committee, Arizona Republican Party, Pope John Paul II Cultural Center, The Seniors Coalition and Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). She supported many charities including Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, Childhood Leukemia Foundation, National Cancer Research Center, Alzheimer’s Disease Research, The Heritage Foundation, National Caregiving Foundation, Save Our Scouts and Disabled/Retired Police Officers. In addition to her parents, Lela was preceded in death by her only sister, Olive Helen Workman (Sister George Marie, CCVI), former spouse Leo Morgan, and sons-in-law John R. Sheble and Gary A. Werner. Funeral arrangements were made by Richardson’s Remembrance Center. Visitation was Monday Feb. 13th and a funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes on Tuesday Feb. 14th was followed by burial at Cochise Gardens of Rest in Benson, Arizona.
