C. F. A. Mittge died on Thursday, December 21, in his home eight miles south of Lebanon, following a few days' illness from pneumonia. He was 73 years old. Interment was in New Hope cemetery.

Mr. Mittge was a native of Prussia where he was born December 18, 1843. There his early life was spent, several years being given to active army service. In 1869, he was married to Miss Wilhelmina Kleinfelt and, in 1887 came with his family to this country, living first in Brooklyn, New York then in Dubuque, Iowa then in Evansvlle, Indiana, coming in 1893 to Laclede County, where he settled on the arm that was his home during the remainder of his life.
He united with the Baptist Church in Germany in 1863, and after locating in Laclede County, became a member of the church at New Hope. He is survived by his wife, one daughter and two sons.

Mr. Mittge was a highly esteemed citizen and his death is deeply regretted in the community where so many years of his life were spent.

On Thursday, December 21 st, C. F. A. Mittge passed from this life to the Great Beyond. He was taken with pneumonia Sunday night before and died at about 6 o'clock Thursday morning.

Mr. Mittge was bom December 18, 1843 in Prussia Province, Brandenburg Germany. He came to the United States July 1, 1887, stopping in Brooklyn, New York for a short time, going from there to Dubuque, Iowa, from there to Evansville, Indiana, and in June 1893 coming to Laclede county, buying a farm 8 miles south of Lebanon and living thereon until he was called to his home above.

He was a carpenter by trade, but turned his attention to farming since coming to this county.

He served in the war with Denmark in 1864 and in 1866 in the war with Austria and in 1870-71 in the war with France, coming out of the three wars without being wounded.

He united with the Baptist church in Germany in 1868 and when he came to this neighborhood united with the Baptist church at New Hope church, in which faith he lived until death.

He was married January 29, 1869 to Miss Wilheknina Kleinfelt and is survived by his wife and three children — two sons and one daughter.

Interment was in the New Hope cemetery.

Mr. Mittge was of a very unassuming disposition an was a fine neighbor, a good citizen and an exemplary- man in his daily walk and conversation.
