Lydia Ellen Day Obituary: Lydia Ellen Day, daughter of Bryan and Rachael Day, was born October 15, 1830, at Terre Haute, Indiana, and departed this life Dec. 4, 1948, at Bethany, MO, at the age of 98 years, 1 month and 21 days. At an early age she moved with her parents to Clarke County, IA where she grew into womanhood. She was united in marriage to James Lewis McIntosh on January 22, 1871 at Murray, IA. To this union five children were born. In 1901 the family moved to a farm near Eagleville, MO, where the greater part of her life was spent. She united with the Christian church at an early age and remained a member until her death. Her husband preceded her in death Oct. 28, 1912, as did the eldest son, Auris H. McIntosh, in 1932. She is survived by the remaining four children: Mrs. Martha Toppping, Denver, CO, Mrs. Edith Allen, Englewood, CO, Richard H. McIntosh, Ridgeway, MO, and Lewis J. McIntosh, Jameson, MO, 15 grandchildren 28 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. In the passing of Grandma McIntosh, as she was known to all, another of the sturdy pioneers who helped to establish and build the religious and civil background of our nation, has gone to her reward. In the words of the Apostle Paul, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." Funeral services were held Dec. 7 at the Eagleville Christian church by the Rev. O. D. Hedges. Burial was at the Eagleville Masonic cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons Oley, John, F. J., Loren, Howard, and Robert McIntosh.

The following article from December 8, 1948, Bethany, Missouri newspaper has been brought to my attention:

Frontier child Mrs. Lydia McIntosh, died here at the age of 98. In her long lifetime, she recounted how she could recall being brought into her parents' home while Indians passed in migration.

It is in further emphasis of Mrs. McIntosh's long span of life to note that three of her brothers were in the Civil War, several nephews were in the Spanish-American War, and one son and several nephews were in World War I, and four grandsons and two great-grandsons were in World War II.
