Dorothy A. Belke, 60,of 409 Woodlawn Ave. died at 1:15 p.m. Monday (March 5, 1990) at St. Francis Medical Center.
A mailroom clerk at Caterpillar Inc. for 36 years before retiring in 1985, she was an active member of Madison Avenue United Methodist Church, where she was a lay leader. She also was active in the workings of Northside Housing Planning Committee.
Mrs. Belke was former chairman of Neighbor Ministries Food Pantry and past president of the Averyville Improvement Association.
Her memberships also included Northside Planning Task Force, Caterpillar Retirees Club, Caterpillar Tennis Club, Peoria Art Guild, Peoria Anti-Hunger Coalition Movement, Illinois Central College Movement, Illinois Central College Choir and the Bicycle Club of Peoria.
Born April 7, 1929, in Peoria to Joseph and Sophia Fetzer Gand, she married Federick E. Belke on Oct. 4, 1958. He died March 7, 1978. An infant brother also preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, Fredrick J., and one daughter, Amy G. Belke, both of Peoria; two grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert Gand of Buffalo Grove and William Gand of Tarpon Springs, Fla.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at her church with the Revs. Bill Lakota Eastin, Jean Cramer-Heuerman and Marilyn Lansberry officiating. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Wilton Mortuary and beginning at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Oncology Department at St. Francis Medical Center or the Endowment Fund at Madison Avenue United Methodist Church.
