Dale Stewart Atkinson - of Hants Border, Nova Scotia, formerly of Stewiacke, NS, died on February 19th, 2013 at the age of 64. Born on August 22nd, 1948 in Truro, NS, he was the son of the late Stewart and Marion (Jeffers) Atkinson. In 1967 he joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police – fulfilling his childhood dream – serving in Newfoundland & Labrador, Ottawa, and various detachments in Nova Scotia until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the RCMP Veterans Association and a Past Master of Poyntz Lodge #44 A.F. & A.M. Hantsport, NS. Dale enjoyed his association with Eden Golf & Country Club, West Paradise, NS, and the many good times had with relatives and acquaintances during visits to his wife’s home province of Newfoundland & Labrador. Dale had a truly genuine and contagious spirit and he made an instant and lasting impression on everyone fortunate to have met him. He will be missed greatly by his surviving wife, Audrey; daughters, Jennifer (Ronnie) Van Dommelen, Dartmouth, NS; Erin (Sean) Taylor, Kingston, ON; and Sara Atkinson, Dartmouth, NS. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Katie Van Dommelen and twins, Ben and Georgia Van Dommelen; and sister, Lorraine (Paul) Michie, Stewiacke. There will be no funeral by request. A reception to celebrate Dale’s life will take place on Sunday, February 24th from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at the Stewiacke Community Centre, 109 Hwy #2, Stewiacke. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville, NS. Interment will take place at a later date with burial at Pine Grove Cemetery, Stewiacke East, NS.
