Mrs. Myrtle Mae Matthews Bennett, 89, widow of Mr. Robert Bennett, 125 Hanes Mill Rd., formerly of Surry County, passed away Friday morning at Knollwood Hall.


She was born in Surry County to Tandy and Sarah Taylor Matthews.


She was a member of Stanleyville Baptist Church.


Her first husband, Mr. Roy Adams, and a daughter, Mrs. Pauline Adams Inman, preceded her in death.


Surviving is one son, Mr. Adrian Adams, 125 Hanes Mill Rd.; 8 grandchildren: Joan Peters, Fayne Fesperman, Sylvia Cave, Alice Owens, Ronald Inman, Jerry Inman, Teresa Daughtry, and Connie Hammaker; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Lena Matthews Jackson, Westfield, N.C.; and one brother, Mr. Walter M. Matthews, Pilot Mountain.


Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Cox-Needham Funeral Home Chapel in Pilot Mountain by the Rev. Perry Huffstetler, the Rev. Lester Sheppard, and the Rev. Oscar Hartman. Burial will be in Hills Presbyterian Church Cemetery.


The body is at Cox-Needham Funeral Home Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight.
