Taken from Steubenville Herald Star, June 1, 1948...George R. Mayhew, 56, of 563 South Fourth Street, Steubenville, Ohio, died late monday in the Ohio Valley Hospital where he had been a patient nine days. Born in Cadiz, Mr. Mayhew had resided in Steubenville since 1909 and was employed as a railroad engineer with the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was a member of Calvary Methodist Church and the Brotherhood of Railroad Engineers. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mabel Mayhew, two daughters, Mrs. Dorothey Oller of 565 South Fourth Street and Mrs. Elwood Selsor of Columbus, a son, Wiliam of Buena Vista Blvd, three grandchildren, Marlene, Gayle, and Georgie Oller, a sister, Mrs. Charles Brownlee of Highland Park, Michigan, and two brothers, Fred of Chicago and James of Cheyenne Wyo. Services will be held THursday at 2 p.m. in the McClave Funeral Home, 611 North Fourth Street. Rev. Harold WIlliams will officiate. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery.
